Live Photo to Video Converter

Short answer:

  1. Open the Picto.Video iOS app.
  2. Pick the Live Photo.
  3. Tap Save as Video.

An MP4 with the motion and the sound lands in Photos.

Free, no watermark, and the file never leaves your phone.

A Live Photo is a package containing a still photo and a short video, kept together in your iOS Photos library. When it is shared over Messenger, WhatsApp etc, it only sends the still photo. This is why you need to use our iOS app so it can pick the set correctly.

Why your Live Photo stops moving outside Apple

A Live Photo is a set of two files: a photo and a short video, paired inside your iOS Photos library. Inside the Apple ecosystem the pair travels together, so a Live Photo sent by iMessage or AirDrop still plays. Outside it, almost every share sends the photo and leaves the video behind: WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and email all deliver a still. Our iOS app loads both parts of the Live Photo you pick and saves the video part as an MP4 that plays anywhere.

A Live Photo: one still and a three-second MOV, linked together
still + motion + identifier. Shared outside Apple, only the still travels. The iOS app reads both.

Three taps in the iOS app

  1. 01pick

    Pick the Live Photo.

The picker lists Live Photos only.

  2. 02check

    Watch it play.

About three seconds, with the sound, at the size your iPhone recorded it.

  3. 03save

    Save as Video.

The MP4 goes to Photos. Send it on WhatsApp or post it to Instagram and it moves for everyone. Or tap Share and send it from the iOS app.

Want more than three seconds?

The same iOS app animates the still into a longer video: pick the photo, describe the motion, and the video renders in about a minute. That lane is paid. Live Photo to Video is free.

Animate the photo instead

Video to Live Photo

The iOS app does the reverse too: trim any video to three seconds, pair it with a still, save it to Photos as a real Live Photo for the Lock Screen. Also free.

How to turn a video into a Live Photo

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Live Photo to video on iPhone?
  1. Open the Picto.Video iOS app.
  2. Choose Live Photo to Video.
  3. Pick the Live Photo.
  4. Tap Save as Video.

The MP4 is in Photos with the motion and the sound.

Apple Photos exports a MOV too. On iOS 17 and later, open the Live Photo, tap the More button, then Save as Video. On iOS 13 to 16 it sits in the Share sheet.

Can I convert a Live Photo to video online?

No. Safari uploads the still image of a Live Photo, so no website ever sees the video. The conversion happens on the phone, where Photos keeps both files.

Live Photo to MP4 or MOV, which do I want?

MP4. The iOS app saves H.264 MP4 with the sound, and that plays on Android, Windows, WhatsApp, Instagram and any TV. Apple's Save as Video gives a MOV, which some Android phones and older TVs refuse.

Is there a watermark?

No. The saved video is clean: no watermark, no branding, no signup, nothing uploaded.

What is a .livp file and how do I turn it into MP4?

A .livp is a Live Photo downloaded from iCloud.com: a zip holding the HEIC still and the MOV video. Rename it to .zip, unzip it, and the MOV is your video. On the iPhone the iOS app reads the Live Photo from Photos and no .livp is involved.

Why does my Live Photo send as a still?

Messengers keep the photo and drop the paired video. Saved as MP4, the motion is the file, so nothing is dropped.
